We Aim for Long-Term Partnerships
We like to work closely with external partners who inspire us. We have developed strong partnerships with trade associations, international organisations, and NGOs to enhance our knowledge and engage in constructive dialogue and action.
Oxfam
In 2020, we partnered with OXFAM to strengthen our social sustainability roadmap. This partnership allows us to conduct a more thorough investigation into the impact of our operations on key human rights while improving the lives of workers and communities in the tuna supply chain. It also formed the basis of our human rights policy.
WWF
Since 2017, we’ve been working with WWF on healthy oceans. They help us improve the sustainability of our supply chain, and we adhere to their tuna strategy. Together we have initiated relevant projects, such as certification of supply chains, advocacy for better management of fishing areas, conservation projects related to marine ecosystem health, conservation schemes and communication campaigns that raise awareness about sustainable fishing.
UN Global Compact
We actively support the United Nations Global Compact in Italy, Spain, the USA, and Ecuador, engaging in initiatives such as position papers and knowledge-sharing efforts. Our focus includes critical areas like supply chain due diligence, human rights protection, and ocean stewardship, contributing to global discussions and actions on these pressing issues.
Specific Partnerships
for Our Fishing Industry
International Pole and Line Foundation
The International Pole and Line Foundation supports sustainable fishing practices, including through scientific research. Our involvement in this organisation allows us to help small-scale fishermen.
Global Ghost Gear Initiative
At least 640,000 tons of fishing gear are lost and abandoned every year. The Global Ghost Gear Initiative aims to tackle this harmful form of marine debris, including via a Best Practice Framework.
Bermeo Tuna World Capital
This public-private alliance aims to bring together all key actors in the tuna supply chain, from fishermen to NGOs and government agencies. The ultimate goal is to promote sustainable tuna management based on scientific knowledge.
Seafood Task Force
This industry-led initiative combats illegal and unregulated fishing. The organisation's membership includes some of the world’s largest tuna suppliers, brands, and retailers. We are one of the driving forces behind this organisation.
ISSF
We’re one of the founding members of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation, a non-profit organization that brings together leading companies in the fishing industry, the scientific community and environmental NGOs. The organization aims to promote long-term conservation and sustainable use of tuna.
Global Tuna Alliance
We are part of the Global Tuna Alliance, an independent group of retailers and supply chain companies, working to ensure that tuna ultimately meets the highest standards of environmental performance and social responsibility.
AZTI
We are a partner of AZTI, a scientific and technological centre that develops cutting-edge products. Together we’ve developed groundbreaking techniques that prevent the accidental capture of vulnerable species, such as small sharks and turtles.
NAPA
We’re part of the North Atlantic Pelagic Advocacy Group (NAPA), a coalition of more than 50 retailers, food service companies and suppliers aimed at improving North Atlantic pelagic fisheries management.
Specific Partnerships
for Our Beauty, Home and Personal Care Industries
AISE
We have joined the International Association of Soaps, Detergents and Cleaning Products (A.I.S.E.) initiative to promote the use of recycled plastic in packaging. We endorse the ambitious objectives of this initiative.
Cosmetics Europe
Bolton, along with its Personal Care and Beauty brands, has joined 'CommitForOurPlanet,' an initiative by Cosmetics Europe aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of the cosmetics sector through collective action across the entire value chain.
Packaging Ethical Charter Foundation
In 2023, we became ambassadors of the Packaging Ethical Charter Foundation (Fondazione Carta Etica del Packaging). This foundation promotes a set of shared values within the packaging supply chain, aligning our development activities with the principles of the Ethical Packaging Charter, particularly focusing on safety, transparency, and sustainability.
