Towards a More Circular Economy

To protect our planet, we need to go beyond conservation and rethink the entire lifecycle of how we produce and consume. That's why we're on a journey towards circularity. This will reduce resource use, habitat destruction, biodiversity loss and waste pollution, and help tackle the climate crisis.

Responsible Sourcing and Use of Raw Materials

Bolton is committed to reducing the environmental and social impact of its ingredients and raw materials.

For the company's food activities, we are committed to responsible sourcing of tuna, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, mussels, salmon, beef, vegetables and oil. For beef, we work with suppliers that follow the principles of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, emphasizing the importance of animal health and ensuring traceability. For vegetables and oil our policies ask suppliers to manage soil and water sustainably and minimise the use of pesticides.

In the Home Care, Personal Care and Beauty categories, we aim to replace synthetic chemicals with sustainable natural ingredients and have blacklisted certain ingredients in search of sustainable alternatives.

Introducing sustainable cleaning

Winni’s Bio-Fermentation

Our Home Care brand, Winni's, is committed to pioneering safe, environmentally friendly solutions. Bolton has taken bio-fermentation, a natural process used in many industries, and applied it to home care. This process uses yeast to ferment oils and sugars to create 100% natural cleaning ingredients. These actives improve both sustainability and cleaning performance. Already used in Winni's liquid laundry detergents and hand dishwashing detergents, bio-fermentation is an example of Winni's commitment to effective, sustainable cleaning.

Embracing waterless formulations

Water-Less Beauty

To reduce environmental impact and improve convenience, Bolton has adopted a waterless approach to product formulation.

By eliminating water, our products become more concentrated, more essential and easier to transport. Examples include Collistar's Cleansing Butter and Cream-Powder Cleanser. In addition, Cavaillès and Omia have adopted this innovative approach with their solid face range and solid shampoos respectively.

This shift reflects our commitment to sustainability and efficiency in skin care.

Packaging

Reducing Our Packaging Footprint

Since 2022, we have been working with WWF Italy to assess the sustainability of our packaging and identify areas for improvement, particularly in the responsible use of plastics. This partnership aims to strengthen our packaging policies and procedures and drive sustainable innovation towards our packaging goals.

As part of this collaboration, we have reviewed our Packaging Policy, which outlines our strategy for promoting a circular economy in packaging.

Waste management

We Strive for Zero Waste

In our operations, we prioritize reusing, recycling, or responsibly disposing of waste to minimize landfill and incineration without energy recovery. We are actively engaging with specialized companies and local authorities to explore suitable treatment solutions for each waste type. Additionally, we are identifying potential synergies with private and public entities in our local communities interested in waste recovery and valorization initiatives.

Packaging Ethical Charter Foundation

In 2023, we became ambassadors of the Packaging Ethical Charter Foundation (Fondazione Carta Etica del Packaging). This foundation promotes shared values within the packaging supply chain, aligning our activities with the principles of the Ethical Packaging Charter, with a focus on safety, transparency, and sustainability.
