We all have one common target: to eliminate plastic leakage into the ocean by 2040. Despite best efforts, plastic leakage into oceans continues at a fast pace. Plastic pollution issues cannot be solved by one sector acting alone.
That is why WWF will launch a new report called “The business case for a UN treaty on plastic pollution” on October 14th. Co-authored by WWF, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and Boston Consulting Group, this report promises to bring the business voice into the discourse ahead of UNEA-5 (UN Environmental Assembly) in February where UN member states will hopefully be voting on whether to start negotiations for a global treaty to manage plastic pollution.
Alongside other leaders of the retail and FMCG sectors, Bolton Group endorsed the business Manifesto, which is a call to the United Nations member states to commit to the development of a global treaty on plastic pollution. It represents the starting point for the implementation of concrete actions such as:
– The increase of business awareness through companies’ involvement
– The enactment of a global regulation to better regulate plastic bags
– The implementation of concrete actions to improve waste management
– The definition of common terminology and KPIs to create realistic reports and better define goals
