In 1755, Edme François Julien Botot created L’Eau de Botot for the French king Louis XV. This preparation, made with natural essences, gave the King a breath that matched his reputation as a seducer.

Just before the French revolution, the king Louis XVI gave his royal approval to this product. A few months later, his wife, the Queen Marie-Antoinette, who was at this time a prisoner, asked her jailer to make her wear a bottle.
